About The Tufting Calculator

The Tufting Calculator is the most complete free tufting tool available, featuring image upload with automatic color analysis, yarn yardage per color in both yards and grams, a rug pricing calculator for Etsy sellers and craft market vendors, a needle-to-yarn matching guide, and a complete project materials checklist.

Why we built this

Every other yarn calculator for tufting requires you to manually estimate color percentages. We built a tool that reads your image automatically, the way this calculation should have always worked. We added the rug pricing calculator because no free tool existed to help tufters price their work fairly.

How this site is supported

The Tufting Calculator is built and maintained by the Rytell craft team. It is free to use and always will be, and the site is supported by advertising through Google AdSense. You may see ads displayed on the page โ€” these are served by Google based on general browsing context and help cover the costs of building and maintaining the tool.

The site also includes affiliate links โ€” for example to Amazon โ€” and we may earn a commission on qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. Advertisers and affiliate partners never influence our tool outputs or recommendations. The tools produce results based purely on the inputs you provide โ€” advertising relationships have no bearing on what the calculator shows you. See our Privacy Policy for full details on how advertising cookies work.

Accuracy and limitations

Yarn estimates are based on standard tufting density constants for each method and are intended for planning purposes. Actual yarn usage varies by individual technique, yarn type, pile consistency, and backing tension. We recommend adding a 15 to 20 percent waste buffer, especially for first projects.
